Business News: Carter's Imagewear & Awards new location

Carter’s Imagewear & Awards would like to thank the local community for their tremendous support during the last 7 months. Due to the amazing response from area businesses, schools and other organizations, our rapid growth has forced us to look for a larger facility for our production and retail space. We have also added a new embroidery machine to help match the demands of our customers and the need to provide state of the art embroidery with fast turnaround times. Because of all this, we are pleased to announce that we have moved to a larger location just 2 stores away from our first location. The new address is at 8442 M-119 in the Harbor Plaza, by the Harbor Springs Airport or call 487-1445. Please stop by to find out how we can help you with your School spirit wear, Corporate Apparel, Monogramed items, as well as signage and promotional items or visit our website at www.cartersimagewear.com

Knox Gallery Event Art Opening

Harbor Springs, MI - Knox Galleries announces a summer exhibition featuring the contemporary art of Petoskey resident, David  K. Austin, including  paintings, mixed media and sculptures, inspired by the natural beauty of Lake Michigan.  Two artist receptions will be held at the gallery from 6:00-9:00 pm on Thursday, August 11th and Friday, August 19th; they are free and open to the public. Meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments. The exhibition continues through August 31st. For further information please contact the gallery, 231-526-5377.

David Austin earned a BFA from Northern Michigan University. His art is in public and private collections including the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library Art Collection, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Austin states: “This body of work reflects my time of summers on the lake, and how it inspires me. I am privileged to live and work so near the water now, and wish to share my joy and creative vision with my audience. I am fascinated with the epiphanies I have experienced during my time here….this location and the people have really fueled my passion for painting and travel. I have just begun to paint the stories.”

Deane Knox, gallery owner, has acquired David’s works for his own personal collection and states: “I believe David’s compositions show a depth of originality through his use of form and color, many of which reflect the atmosphere and beauty of the sweet water surrounding our northern Michigan resorts. Please join us in the celebration of his work.”  Knox, who has owned and operated galleries in the U.S. since 1982, is introducing his Michigan gallery to abstraction for the first time with Austin’s show.  Knox is donating a percentage of painting sales profits to Street Musique, the summer music street festival program sponsored by the Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce.  For further information on the contemporary art of David K. Austin, or Knox Galleries  please call, 231-526-5377.

Harbor Springs Winery Receives Awards

Harbor Springs Vineyards & Winery at Pond Hill Farm recently received four silver medals at the Michigan Wine and Spirits Competition. The four prize winning wines include their Riesling, Pinot Gris, Cherry Wine, and Cherry Finale Dessert Wine. The winery has been open for a little over a month and a half now and has been bustling daily with locals and visitors enjoying wine tasting. “We are so honored to have received these awards. The winery has been a really fantastic addition to Pond Hill Farm. I think it’s great for our customers to come with their families and enjoy wonderful wines, farm fresh foods, and an all around great time.” says Marci Spencer co-owner. Harbor Springs Winery wines feature artwork on the labels by local artist Trisha Witty. The label pictures are representative of this area and include paintings such as picture of the u-gotta regatta, the pointer boat on the 4th of July, and a view of Harbor Springs Wineries terraced vineyard. The farm and winery will be hosting several upcoming Wine Tasting Dinners featuring their wines paired with a gourmet four course dinner prepared using their fresh produce and farm raised meats. “These dinners really are memorable” says Spencer. “It’s a treat to see chef Scott Schornak create such amazing dishes from all of our farm raised products. The wines are paired with the help of Pascale Asbury who has been in the wine industry for years. The next wine tasting dinner will be held on Wednesday, August 10th at 7:00pm. For reservations for this dinner or any of the upcoming dates contact the farm at 231-526-3276. The tasting room is open Monday through Saturday from 11am-6pm and Sundays Noon-6pm. The adjoining Garden Café is open 11am-3pm daily and Pond Hill Farm is open year round daily 8am-6pm. www.harborspringswinery.com www.pondhill.com
